Hey team, I was wondering what the server difficulty would be set to after the reset. I think the difficulty on the current map is on easy? I am also wondering if villagers will be nerfed again? They seem to have a plugin which prevents you from changing their profession by removing the job block and replacing until desired trades are obtained. They seem to gain their new profession with a small amount of XP? Perhaps I was experiencing a bug? I use villagers a lot and the difficulty makes it near impossible to get trade discounts which is a vanilla feature. Obviously a higher difficulty also means better drops from mobs etc too which is really good for early game. Cheers Voltage
I'd imagine the difficulty would stay easy. Just wondering if you traded with the villagers before you removed the job blocks cause that does make them keep the job profession once they've had a trade. Just wanna rule it out.
Nah, I have a breeder setup and 100% never traded with any of them. I have about 20-30 villagers and same result every time. Cheers
I had to look into this, we didn't actually intentionally prevent this functionality, we have a general "anti exploit" package which automatically blocks what you're describing as it's apparently considered an exploit. We will do further consultation and decide if this is something that we should change or not. The server difficulty will either be Easy or Normal. I wish there was a way we could allow players to set it per-island, but unfortunately it's per world setting, and I haven't been able to come up with a way of getting around that. I think it may be worth allowing players to vote on Discord (does Discord have polls?) for the difficulty. I imagine a lot of people would benefit from a hard difficulty, but I also imagine plenty of people would want it to stay on easy.
I agree, I feel that there would be a lot of people that would prefer hard. The reason we're all on this server is because it's original vanilla Skyblock without the OP ore gens and various plugins that remove the survival aspect. Hard difficulty opens many more doors to utilize all the vanilla villager features inspiring more sophisticated trading halls to be built. Mobs deal more damage yes, but most players setup hostile mobs farms and make the rest of their islands spawn proof. Hostile mobs will then also drop more items which is good for early game only. I see no negatives. I really like the idea of getting the community to decide?
I was able to come up with a theoretical way of setting the difficulty per island, so as of now the plan is to allow players to choose their own difficulty. ~Glitch
I just wanted to follow up on this and confirm that we will in fact be allowing players to pick their own difficulty on a per-island basis. I've created a patch which modifies Minecraft so difficulty is now done on a per-chunk basis, instead of a per-world basis. Since island boundaries line up with chunk boundaries, this works quite nicely. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm happy we were able to implement something which should please everyone. ~Glitch
