I applaud you Corrin. This is extremely well thought out and I can now learn to fully understand your views on the matter of the age restriction of staff applications. Obviously I can't tell you whether or not any of your beliefs or ideas will be taken into consideration but I definitely agree that yes, saying that members under a certain age are immature is a broad generalisation and I completely understand that there will be some members younger than the required age restriction whom may well be just as or even more mature than older members. Some sort of test of maturity does sound like quite a reasonable idea that I'm sure the staff will think about after reading your thread. Thanks for submitting this Corrin, you've definitely given everybody something to think about!

    Hey,
So I'm not her to refute or argue your points (although the lawyer in me kinda wants to), but instead to share my opinion of why the age limit is there.
I personally believe that while yes, maturity does play a roll in the limit, it's about experience too. And no, not experience running servers or staffing them. But instead, experience in the world. Dealing with people. Coping with problems. Coming up with on-the-spot solutions. Fixing conflicts. Dealing with drama. Anticipating reactions. Interactions with those you don't like. All of these skills are learned in the Outernet and can translate into staffing knowledge.
For example, a 13 year old is likely in 7th grade. Now, that 13 year old may believe he or she has tons of knowledge in the subject of person-to-person interactions, but the truth is that they haven't even scratched the iceberg of drama and social relations that are to come. 15-year-olds have two more years of dealing with people under their belt. They may see a conflict in the server and think, "hey this is just like when Margrett and Christina had that fight in school because Margret thought christina stole her folder, so the solution that worked there is to calm both down and agree for one to look in other places while the other searches her stuff politely to see if it is indeed there.

There's also the knowledge gained from schooling. You cannot argue the fact that 15-year-olds know more than 13. School may teach what seems to be useless facts, like interpreting the works of Shakespeare, but you're also learning big tools on how to infer from a scenario. Just one example.

So now you may be thinking, well, then why isn't the age limit 18? Or 21? Because 15 is the perfect middle ground that allows the staff to be a close enough age to the players while still have maturity and knowledge.

And one could make the argument of working. Around the Boston area, most 15 year olds are expected to work over the summers and after school. Working in jobs brings about more skills such has human relations and humility.

Finally, let's imagine that you are 15. You just log onto a server and see that two staff are 10 years old. Would you want to stay on that server? Having the staffing minimum be 15 is the perfect middle ground between the younger and older players.
