Anyone else think animal drops sell prices are ridiculous?

When it comes to selling animal drops, and even hostile mob drops, it really isn't worth it. If you were to sell a full inventory of any cooked meat, you would only get $900! Same for the majority of mob drops. I do get the reason why they are lower than crops and other items; because you can get spawners for the animals and mobs, and in theory should be easier to farm. However at this price it really is not worth having spawners, not to mention that the majority of crops can be automatically farmed. It also changes the economy drastically; spawners are sold for $5000 at a time and don't really affect the gameplay because nobody needs or wants them, so the spawners are stuck in this vicious circle of being bought: people realising they are not worth having: then reselling them. All I'm saying is if the animal/mob drops sell prices were to match or be slightly less than the sell prices of the crops then we would see a wider range of farms on islands, and spawners won't be so useless. Feel free to give feed back.

Agreed, i feel like you sell cooked meat for a bit less than i think it should be, after all it is in a way harder to get than crops so it should be similar to the price that crops sell for, even though you can use a spawner for the cows, chickens and such, they still need to be killed and cooked which can be more of a hassle than just farming melons, pumpkins and other crops. I know that if it sold for more i would probably have a few more farms.

You already brought up the problem this suggestion would cause if implemented - automatic passive mob spawners are really easy to make (and people have /spawnmob). If staff raised the passive mob drop sell prices it'd wreck the economy even more than it's being wrecked now.

Automatic crop farms are a thing too and you cannot make a animal or mob farm as good as a crop farm without tonnes of spawners.

I never claimed automatic crop farms aren't a thing. If you compare the steak sell price ($900/full inv) to the melon sell price ($1080/full inv, not sure about this one but I can't check as the server isn't online), there isn't that much difference and afaik a cow grinder for example is more efficient than an automatic melon farm (this obviously depends on the size but this is under the assumption you put the same amount of time into making each one of these farms).

isnt that because melons give like 6+ slices per melon block, and each cow only gives 1-3 steak..? it really isnt fair to compare melons, one of a few blocks that gives a lot of items on break, to something that barely gives anything compared to amount wise.

That further proves my point, you get less from steak and other drops when you can acquire crops and get more and sell them for more.

Are you sure you were near enough both your melon and cow farm when you tried this? And did you put the same amount of effort into both farms? I might be wrong, like I said "afaik", but my other point still stands if that's the case. You could practically spawn in steak out of nowhere with /spawnmob.

I have been standing closer to my cow farm. Yes you are right, but that would take a ton of effort to get just 1 inventory full.

It wouldn't take a ton of effort. Just build something that makes the cows fall through lava so they burn with hoppers at the bottom (like you'd do it in a regular cow grinder), build a small platform at the top, do /spawnmob and destroy the platform. I don't know if /spawnmob has some kind of limit, but I tested this in singleplayer using spawn eggs and just spawned cows above lava and a bunch of hoppers for 5 minutes. This is what I got

Keep in mind, I stood there and used spawn eggs for 5 minutes. If you have spawnmob you can just do /spawnmob cow 100 over and over (if there is no limit, as I mentioned above. I don't have the command, I don't know if there is one). Building the lava hopper trap thingy took me about 3 minutes.

(you can't go higher than 10 with spawnmob and you can't just keep doing /spawnmob cow 10 over and over cause you will get kicked after a while.)

Keep in mind, you are doing something. Crop farms are mostly automatic.

thats his point, you can break the economy with spawnmob because you can get infinite cows in a short amount of time, and if passive mob drops are worth more, you would want to grind out a few hours to get alot of money instead of "afking" at your farms waiting for half to 3/4 of the possible profit from grinding steak. so i think its balanced right now, until they change something with spawnmob to make it not all that broken.

You may be able to get infinite cows but as Drastic has said, there is a spawn limit of 10 and you get kicked for spam if you spam it. Not to mention that you get infinite cows from a cow spawner and infinite cactus by putting a block diagonal to it. Everything can be infinitely grinded.

Keep in mind, singleplayer doesn't have /spawnmob.
    ^^^^^^
    Thanks.

You can do /spawnmob cow 10 19 times and than you get kicked for spam but you can just join the server again and do it all over. You can sell 64 steak/leather for 25$ its not that bad you can make some money off it but if you think its too low just farm something else.
