Hi everyone! Does anyone else miss skygrid because I really, really do. Is there any hope of it ever coming back online for SkyHub?
While I personally never played it because of vertigo and nausea. There has been many people I've heard wish it came back so figured I would put that info out there.
I think the priority is building a player base on Skyhub, suppose it makes sense dividing a smaller player base up would be a bad idea, plus the Skygrid was up for ages but nobody really went on it anyway. There was the creative server too but nobody went on that either, you need more players consistently on somewhere to keep people going on and I think Skygrids was PVP so it really doesn't work with the players who just want to build on the other server. I guess it's hard getting players on PVP servers, I mean even the current Skyblock doesn't do much PVP, mind it's a survival server so the experience probably clashes a bit, nothing stopped people going on there last time it was up but if only a cluster of people go on they need to be on all the time to keep new people coming There's also the other thing with how much time you put into one vs the other, the server resets are like a year in between and people put a lot of time into their islands and making money so dividing time between working on their islands and collecting resources in Skygrid isn't time efficient when you only have a year to work on your island on Skyblock. You wanna play PVP for fun but you have Bedwars and solid PVP servers for that with a constant flux of people, and you have Skyblock which is steadily growing with people who just want to play and build islands, honestly looking at Skygrid it feels like a different player base would be on there next to Skyblock. That's my two cents anyway.
Although, I agree that it is fundamentally a pretty bad game mode that doesn't fit well with the general community of the server.
A lot of people wanted Prison back but yeah the populations kind of better to keep together, if the server had an ever-fluctuating stream of players in the triple digits or a massive network it'd survive well, but not here. Plus the staff would have to go back and forth dealing with issues between both and that's probably not too fun either.
We've always been planning to bring back Skygrid some day, but we've also been saying that for about 3 years now. Sie has covered the main points, Skybock is what we're known for and the primary reason people play on the server, so we don't want to risk neglecting it to spend an extended period of time setting up another server, especially when there's no guarantee anyone would actually play on it (which is usually the way...). If and when it comes back, hopefully within a year, I don't think we'd do factions PVP like we did before, as Sie hinted at above, that type of server doesn't fit our community too well. I do keep the Skygrid world generation plugin up-to-date in the hopes that one day we'll use it. Last time I touched it was a year ago when I updated it to 1.15. So soon, but not too soon. In the mean time, if you any have ideas on what a non-pvp Skygrid would look like, and what features it should have, then feel free to let me know. ~Glitch
